Despite the daily barrage of headlines stoking fears of rampant inflation and dire food shortages in the wake of the war in Ukraine, commodity traders have been exiting the futures markets en masse since February 2021. What does this tell us about the state of the commodity markets which are, of course, the lifeblood of the global economy?  Well, the only other time a mass liquidation of futures positions of this magnitude occurred was during the Financial Crisis of 2008.
